Whereas the House Republican Budget, known as the Appropriations Act of 2011 (House Bill 200) was recently passed by the North Carolina House; and
Whereas the House Republican Budget would, (1) cut $500 million from K-12 education and eliminate at least 10,000 K-12 jobs, (2) cut Smart Start and More at Four by over $60 million, (3) cut Medicaid funding by over $2.1 billion ($700+ million state money;
$1.4 billion federal) over two years, (4) cut public education funding by over $650 million, and (5) cut funding to a number of other departments to unacceptable levels; and
Whereas North Carolina Representatives Bill Owens, William D. Brisson, Timothy L. Spear, Dewey L. Hill and James W. Crawford, Jr. are the only Democratic members of the North Carolina House who voted in favor of the House Republican Budget (House Bill 200), a budget which is bad for the people of North Carolina, and which all other Democratic Representatives opposed; and
Whereas, these Representatives votes are needed to sustain a veto of this budget.
Be it therefore resolved:
That the Ninth Congressional District of the North Carolina Democratic Party directs all Democratic members of the General Assembly to oppose and vote against House Bill 200, or any similar bill which includes budget cuts at these unacceptable levels.
And the Ninth Congressional District hereby admonishes North Carolina Representatives Bill Owens, William D. Brisson, Timothy L. Spear, Dewey L. Hill and James W. Crawford, Jr. for supporting this budget.
